Addition Games That Feel Like Toys
Sumtown is a toy town of fourteen quick mini games. Kids load trains, launch rockets and hook rubber ducks, and every move is an addition or subtraction fact.
See it in action

How it works
- Play a round. Two or three mini games and a prize game. Every tap, swipe and drag answers a fact, and each question is read aloud for children who aren't reading yet.
- The town finds their level. It starts with small sums and watches how quickly each fact comes back. New groups unlock in teaching order: plus 1 and 2, doubles, pairs that make 10, then the harder ones.
- Hearts and prizes keep it honest. A wrong answer costs a heart, and a good round wins a toy or a building for the town.
- Go deeper. Every fact has its own page, and you can print worksheets or lock the game to one thing, like make 10.
Fourteen games, one skill
Each game has its own physical action. Get the fact right and the block drops, the cart rolls, the rocket flies.

Each of these opens a page with the facts, a trick for learning them, and a game locked to just those facts.
Guides for parents and teachers
Questions parents ask
What age is Sumtown for?
Ages 4 to 8, roughly preschool to second grade. It starts with small sums and grows to every fact within 20.
What is math fact fluency?
Knowing a fact quickly and accurately, and being able to use it flexibly. Children get there by learning strategies first and then practicing little and often.
What are number bonds?
Pairs of numbers that make a total, like 7 and 3 making 10. They're the picture behind most mental addition and subtraction.
Can my child play without reading?
Yes. Every question is read aloud in a recorded voice, and a speaker button plays it again.
Can teachers use Sumtown in class?
Yes, and it's free for classroom use: no accounts, no ads, and it runs on Chromebooks, iPads and the board. You can embed it on your class site.
Are there printable worksheets?
Yes: fact drills, number bonds, fact families and flash cards, all with answer keys.
Is Sumtown really free?
Yes. The whole game plays free in your browser, with no signup, no ads and no time limit. All fourteen mini games are in it. An iPhone app is on its way, and you can read what it will add.

Ready when they are

An app is on its way
We're building a Sumtown app for iPhone with the parts that need a real app: offline play for car rides, a town map that remembers how far your child got, and a parent report on every fact. Until then, the whole game is free right here.
